An Early Summer Collection of Inspiration

Hi all! I hope your summer is off to a great start! I feel like I have so much to share! I guess my inputs have been full. I think this newsletter will be bursting with inspiration!

So here’s what I’ve been inspired by and up to lately…

We went blueberry picking, and the light blushes, the muted magentas, the yellowy sages, and violet purples and blues of the blue berries are so pretty! I’m really inspired to paint some blueberries with the little dew droplets covering them like frost.

We got ducks! They are so cute when they wag their tails! And the patterns on their feathers are so amazing!

1. Sunrise on the morning of blueberry picking. 2 & 3. Natural color palettes and beauties of May. 4. Blueberries!! 5. Baking with our duck eggs! 6. The blues and greens of this cabbage were so beautiful! I love this color palette!

Starting a Nature Reference Collection

I’ve also been starting a collection of nature finds for reference. Even as I’m writing this I have some baby ferns and an empty wasp nest in my backpack.

Book of the Month

Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey. This is such a nostalgic summertime feeling book, maybe solely because of the endpapers. I love the amount of detail that is in this spread.

What I’ve Been Enjoying…

  • Swimming. The way the light reflects off the surface of the water and the way the light refracts and moves underwater. The way bubbles look in the sun underwater.

  • The Master and Commander soundtrack. It’s mainly composed of classic pieces, really well done.

  • Audrey Day’s blog.

  • Sennelier oil pastels. These are so fun. There are so many different ways you can use them. I’m still getting the hang of them and experimenting with them, there definitely is a learning curve.
